Gone, But Not Forgotten

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, fall isn’t yet winter, yet winter is deeply entrenched — much like a houseguest who overstays their welcome. Snow blankets the ground in many places already, the unseasonable cold making the warmth of summer seem a distant memory. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, then you may already be enjoying blooms in your own garden. (I’m jealous!)

Looking at this photograph of one of my flower pots, I remember how lovely and warm it was that day — the sun shining so brightly that things looked as though they were lit from the inside. Happily, while these flowers are a few months gone, they’re not forgotten.

In today’s challenge, show us what “gone, but not forgotten” means to you. It could be a photo of a faithful canine friend who’s chasing squirrels in a better place, a spot in your city, town, or village that reminds you of a relationship now over, a talisman that reminds you of something that you can never get back, a photo of you in your smashing 70s silver lamé jumpsuit, or the crumbs that remain from the delicious cheesecake you baked.
