I’m a street photographer based in Sydney, Australia. In my spare time I like to wander around and photograph people. Mostly up close, capturing that fleeting instance of people’s lives that they may not even be aware of. A moment that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. It’s the minutiae of such moments that takes my attention. Candid photography is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.
Now in its seventh year, the VIVID festival of Sydney, Australia, runs from May 22nd, to June 8th, 2015. VIVID Sydney is the largest event of its kind combining music, light, and ideas.
This year, over 60 light art installations, projections, illuminations, and 3D artworks — many of which are interactive — transform Sydney into a kaleidoscope of color and light art for 18 nights. Last year, the festival attracted an estimated 1.43 million visitors. The majority of displays occur from The Rocks to the Sydney Opera House, but the event has now expanded into Darling Harbour, the University of Sydney, and some of the suburbs.
Notwithstanding the variety of displays, the centerpiece of the festival remains the Lighting of the Sails, a technicolor light show projected onto the western sails of the Sydney Opera House, for six hours each night. This year, multi-disciplinary design collective Universal Everything has been given the task of lighting the night.
The theme for this week’s photo challenge is “Vivid.” Perhaps it’s your favorite flower in full bloom, a beautiful sunset or the color of your ice cream. Vivid is limited only by your imagination. Have fun with the challenge!
